2.2 Concerning the meaning of the word ecology

 

During the recent decades, descriptions of landscape-related changes have often been accompanied by the word “ecological”.


The word “ecology” can broadly be translated as “knowledge of the whole, including the knowledge about interrelations”. This translation reveals that the addition of “ecological” means nothing but a special approach of acting or thinking that can be considered sine qua non when dealing with the constitution of landscape as a whole. In other words, this approach is actually the usual, generic one in this context.
